My name is Mari Thurgate, formerly Mari Monosoff-Richards. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience from Oberlin College and a Masters of Science in Information from the University of Michigan School of Information. I love the irony of a BA in science and a MS in books (my blog from those days is here). I specialize in Health Sciences Librarianship. I’m passionate about people, promoting good science, and teaching students to question authoritative sources.

2017 will be the year of free time, as I have moved with my husband to Toyota City, Japan. Can you guess which car company he works for? We love traveling, we actually met while studying abroad in Australia. You can read about that adventure here. On weekends we go off and have adventures. I’m still trying to figure out what to do with myself on weekdays.

I also love food and am trying to embrace Japanese cuisine. Every few years I feel like I’ve had to relearn to cook (I first learned as a vegetarian cooking for 120 people, then had to learn to cook meat, and now I’m working with an entirely different set of ingredients. You can read about some previous recipe adventures here.
